                                                                            January 2009

Dear Bio-1 Community,

Happy New Year!  Welcome to the January edition of the Bio-1 Buzz, our e-newsletter to keep you connected to the Central New Jersey WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) Bio-1 region. Although it’s still rather cold in New Jersey, it's time to start thinking about the summer!  There are over 40 wonderful summer programs in New Jersey designed for students (middle school, high school and college aged) to learn about careers, science, technology, engineering and more.  Please share our link with students in your life and give them a wonderful summer learning experience close to home!  We are constantly searching for additional summer programs, please send us information about any program not on our list and we’ll add it.  One of our major Bio-1 initiatives is to develop an internship matching capability and a substantial upgrade to our website, which we are ready to launch in a few weeks, so that students in our region may find valuable work experiences this summer in Bio-1 companies.   Please read also about Raritan Valley Community College's Bio-1 funded project, Bio-Man.  In early February, we will be sending a Request for Proposals for the next round of projects to fund.  We also take a look ahead at Dr. Jonathan Yavelow's vision for New Jersey Life Sciences Week 2009 -- this article was written by Matthew Alcalde, a Rutgers Bloustein scholar and graduate with a degree in Biology.

Visit our website www.bio-one.org and don’t forget to pass along the buzz.

Sincerely,
Mary Ellen Clark
Executive Director, WIRED Bio-1
