Dear Bio-1 Community,
Welcome to the May Bio-1 Buzz, our e-newsletter to connect you to the Central New Jersey WIRED (Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development) region’s activities. This month, we feature a variety of stories on jobs and skills - sign up for the third annual New Jersey Council on Gender Parity’s Women in the Science and Technology Workforce Summit on June 5th, which will be a day filled with information and discussion on green jobs, learn about our newest Bio-1 funded projects and read a Star-Ledger interview with Dr. David Finegold on the development of a national skills strategy. Dr.
Casey Crabill, President of Raritan Valley Community College and a member of Bio-1's Governance Board is in our spotlight this month.
A recent report funded and researched by BIO, Battelle, and the Biotechnology Institute provides the first ever comprehensive study of middle and high school bioscience education. This study, released at last week's BIO event in Atlanta, shows states across America are failing to prepare students for pursuing biosciences in higher education, but puts New Jersey students' performance as "leaders of the pack".
A special feature of our website for job seekers and students alike is our
Bio-1 Internship and Job Matching Site. Employers are posting jobs and can search for candidates using our bioscience skills inventory.
As always, please visit our website www.bio-one.org and don’t forget to pass along the buzz.
Sincerely,
Executive Director, WIRED Bio-1
