Dear Bio-1 Community,
Welcome to our “Back to School, Back to Work” issue of the Bio-1 Buzz to connect you to the exciting educational and workforce programs in our region.
Many of the Bio-1 funded programs connecting New Jersey’s talented workforce with jobs in the biosciences are starting to bear fruit. We have individuals completing internships in the RVCC Bio-Man program and being placed in full-time positions. This week we kicked off the Biosciences Bootcamp for workers at Ft. Monmouth affected by the BRAC closing – we had a phenomenal group of engineers and IT professionals learning how to make their skills transferrable to the bioscience industry and coming up to speed on the ABC’s of bioscience. At the end of October, we are launching the Bio-1 Life Sciences Fellows program to give recent graduates from New Jersey’s colleges and universities the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and training while participating in helping our emerging biotech companies to grow.
Keeping the talent pipeline going is also a high priority for Bio-1. We are distributing our “Get Growing” Career Awareness brochures to area high schools and colleges. The Biology Teachers Association of New Jersey have prepared a curriculum guide to accompany the brochure and our career portal contains videos highlighting individuals in New Jersey who are currently employed in the various careers available. http://bio-1.rutgers.edu/careerportal.
As always our Job Matching Website is the place to find New Jersey’s bioscience talent, please post job opportunities and resumes. http://bio-1.rutgers.edu/.
We are continuing to post successful outcomes and deliverables made possible by the WIRED grant http://www.bio-one.org/content/successful_outcomes.html
We look forward to seeing you at the 2009 New Jersey Life Sciences events in October as well!
Sincerely,

Executive Director, WIRED Bio-1
