                                                                            October 2009

Dear Bio-1 Community,

October holds many reasons for the bioscience community to celebrate. Governor Corzine has proclaimed the week of October 20-28, 2009 to be New Jersey Life Sciences Week.  From the proclamation: "...it is indeed appropriate that all New Jerseyans pay tribute to the many valuable contributions made by the individuals and businesses of the life sciences industry sector."

During the week, Dr. Barbara Zilinskas will host Alumni Nite: Career Paths in Biotechnology on Thursday, October 22nd, where alumni from the Rutgers Biotechnology Program come back to join a panel and talk about where they are now.  On Monday, the 26th, the Bio-1 Life Science Fellowship Training Program will launch thanks to the participation of company and school hosts and recent graduates.  The week culminates with a ceremony to celebrate the partnership between the state of New Jersey and the city of Daegu, South Korea.

The celebrations started early this month, as Bio-1 and strategy team leaders Dr. Jonathan Yavelow and Bunny Jaskot awarded certificates of appreciation to their team for their outstanding efforts in exciting young people about the biosciences.

The results of some of this work, in addition to videos highlighting individuals in New Jersey who are currently employed in various careers is available on Bio-1's online career portal at: www.bio1.rutgers.edu/careerportal.

As always our Job Matching Website is the place to find New Jersey’s bioscience talent, please post job opportunities and resumes. http://bio-1.rutgers.edu/.

We are continuing to post successful outcomes and deliverables made possible by the WIRED grant http://www.bio-one.org/content/successful_outcomes.html

We look forward to seeing you at the 2009 New Jersey Life Sciences events!

Sincerely,
Mary Ellen Clark
