Projects Approved by the Bio-1 Executive Committee

The Bio-1 Executive Committee recently approved a portfolio of projects totaling approximately $1.4 million. The following programs are directly aligned with the six Bio-1 strategies, aimed at strengthening New Jersey’s position as a world-class bioscience industry cluster:

  • Creating a “How to” manual for career awareness days
  • Making available a field-based program for teachers and guidance counselors
  • Developing replicable models via Rider University’s Connect-Ed program
  • Exposing young women to the real world of science through the Douglass Project
  • Creating a biotechnology track for the Nontraditional Career Resource Center

Lay Smooth Career and Educational Pathways:

  • Creating a New Jersey Biotechnology Educators Consortium

Transform Graduate Education:

  • Developing a suite of Professional Science Master’s degrees in management or scientific routes

Increase Bioscience Workforce Development:

  • Hosting a “Women in Science and Technology Workforce Summit”
  • Creating a Train the trainer curriculum for community college faculty members to train dislocated workers
  • OASIS Leadership program for women scientists in industry and academia

Enhance Linkages between Education and Industry:

  • Developing a web portal to match requirements with student and teacher needs for internships and co-ops

Facilitate Globally Competitive Bio-Business:

  • Identifying activities for growth in the NJ ocean and Human Health Initiative through Monmouth University

Targeted RFP's went out in September for our next funding round and teams will meet to decide which projects will enable Bio-1 to continue to transform the region.  Stay Tuned!
