Bio-1 Governance Board Spotlight on Dr. Casey Crabill, President, Raritan Valley Community College
Dr. Casey Crabill has been Raritan Valley Community College’s (RVCC) president since 2006. As president, she oversees a $44 million operating budget and a staff of 600 full- and part-time employees, including 116 full-time faculty members. The College offers more than 90 associate degree and certificates programs and currently has 7,000 students enrolled in credit courses each semester. In addition, approximately 12,900 individuals each year take advantage of the noncredit courses through its Corporate and Continuing Education division. RVCC also sponsors a University Center with four partners offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
RVCC's goals for the bioscience industry dovetail with Bio-1's. The College has been very active in building relationships with local pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies and the academic community. Activities span a wide range from those geared toward building a pipeline of students interested in the life sciences to workforce development and training incumbent workers in industry. Given these similar goals, it was a natural fit for Casey to serve on the Governance Board for Bio-1.
RVCC hosts an annual Consul Program for New Jersey Life Sciences, where New Jersey leaders from business, government and academia are invited to meet with Consular officials (commercial, technology and education) representing over 20 global markets, which is one of many reasons Casey was also a logical choice to be the team sponsor for Bio-1's strategy team, Building Globally Competitive Bio-businesses.
One of Casey's goals for RVCC is to have the most relevant and high quality training to meet industry needs. Working with Bio-1 is an opportunity to be in the front of the line when industry talks about what they need, and to develop even stronger partnerships. Casey knew that RVCC's involvement with Bio-1 would provide a good opportunity to enhance the College's curriculum and provide service to industry, but she explained that there have been unexpected benefits as well, including the faculty's further expanded network with all of the other academic and industry partners from the Bio-1 community.
A Leadership New Jersey Fellow, Class of 2007, Casey also serves on the Workforce Investment Board and the Somerset County Business Partnership. She has also joined the boards of Hunterdon Healthcare System, Somerset County United Way and the Hunterdon Chamber of Commerce. Prior to joining RVCC, she served as president of the College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California from July 1999 to June 2006.
